students, this means gaining practical, technical skills4like coding, cybersecurity, data analysis, or
advanced manufacturing techniques4that are highly valued by employers. For educators, it offers the
opportunity to stay up-to-date with emerging trends and incorporate industry-relevant skills into their
teaching.
Our career pathways will include internships, apprenticeships, and hands-on learning experiences, which
are essential for developing technical and professional skills. By integrating real-world tasks and industry
exposure into education, students learn by doing, giving them practical knowledge that theoretical lessons
cannot always provide. This is particularly valuable in fields like healthcare, IT, engineering, and the
heavy trades, where students can apply what they learn in the classroom directly to a real-world
environment.
Career pathways are developed in partnership with industries that are experiencing growth or have high
levels of demand for skilled workers. This ensures that students are being trained in sectors with promising
career opportunities. Fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, healthcare, and software
development are prime examples of sectors where the demand for skilled workers is growing rapidly in
Northeast Ohio. By providing career pathways in these fields, students are better prepared to enter the
workforce and pursue well-paying, sustainable careers.
By integrating career pathways into a k-12 model, both students and educators are better positioned to
develop the technical and professional skills necessary for success in the workforce. This approach not
only empowers students to pursue meaningful careers but also ensures that educators are prepared to teach
relevant, in-demand skills that keep pace with a rapidly changing job market. Recently, several of our
partner Districts have created VM courses to meet the requirements of Ohio Revised Code. We will
continue to build upon our efforts to increase these courses in the eleven member Districts that are served
by the ESCWR and Auburn Career Center.
What skills gap or talent pipeline challenge does this initiative address to help your area/region? What
data supports the identified skill gap or pipeline challenge?
Our local JobsOhio partner, Team NEO, has published a study that addresses the imbalance in our region's
workforce. Aligning Opportunities in the Northeast Ohio Region Included within the report, beginning on
page 18, is a summary of data that focuses on local careers, the wages, demand and our gap for future
employment. The development of career pathways that lead students to high demand, high wage careers
would help to address this shortage and hopefully retain our students in a local business or industry. Team
NEO also provides a Talent Dashboard | The Vibrant Economy Indicators which offers data on skills gaps
and talent pipelines. Further data is available at Litecast 1726526804-the_rising_storm_lightcast_final.pdf
